PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

Get the best out of your body's Regenerative power at Athena Clinic Dubai. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a novel form of regenerative treatment that harnesses the patient’s own body healing capacity.

Platelets are a component of our blood which contain growth factors and stem cells, allowing them to promote tissue healing and cell growth. When injected into the skin, PRP can stimulate collagen production, skin tightening and rejuvenation, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and repair acne damage and scarring. PRP injections are also effective in treating male and female pattern hair loss, as they are injected into the hair follicles to increase thickness and promote hair regrowth. While not everyone is a suitable candidate, there is a high success rate in certain hair loss conditions, including those of hereditary origin in both men and women. PRP can be used in combination with other treatments to give patients the best possible results.

  • Obtaining the Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) involves a medical process in which a person’s blood is drawn from the arm and placed in a centrifuge machine which separates the plasma in about 15 minutes. It is then transferred to syringes and injected into the area of treatment. The procedure of injecting PRP itself takes 10-15 minutes with minimal to no discomfort. There may be mild redness, itching, and pain at the injection sites, but these side effects usually improve shortly after the procedure, especially when the pre and post procedure protocol is followed. Results can vary from person to person, and as regeneration of any cell takes time, the final result is seen after a couple of sessions.

  • Patients should avoid alcohol, any blood thinner medication, and antibiotics 48 hours prior to the treatment. If they are prone to cold sores or keloids, they should inform their doctor prior to the treatment. Heavy makeup should also be avoided on the day of the procedure.

  • Patients should avoid their night skin care routine products (AHAs, retinols, vitamin C) on the night of treatment and oil-based makeup for 24 hours. They can lightly cleanse on the day of treatment using light pressure. The treatment area should not be touched on the day of treatment to avoid infection. Facials, waxing, chemical peels, skin needling, microdermabrasion, IPL or laser treatments
